Taste of Portugal

Penny, in the Douro valley, not having any fun at all.
We had a wonderful time, saw much of the country and missed 'way more.
There will be more posts later and more of the stories will be told.
There are lots.
The people were really great, except when they were driving.
But that is part of the continuing stories.

A few of the 800 or so pictures from the Portugal trip. The sorting, selecting and even printing continues. Expect new items on the living room wall.

So, we stayed at Albufeira in the Algarve (south), did some dytrips to see many places from there, then drove north of Lisbon to Obidos. The rock formations on the Atlantic coast were pretty amazing. This is outside Peniche, very near Obidos.

Then, after a couple of days, north and east to the Douro (pronounced Do'ru according to my new t-shirt). This is a grape growing region that really puts the Niagara vineyards into their proper perspective. The port grapes are grown here. This is the view from our bedroom window at a vineyard estate near Peso da Regua.

From the Douro, north to Guimaraes. Great spot, stayed in an old monastery, lots done, but no pictures here. This is, after all, only a taste. The south and west to Porto for the final couple of days. This is a shot of our hotel and the tourist / cafe strip down by the river and the walking / car / train bridge.

We walked across the bridge several times. The port houses with the tours and tastings were directly across the river from our hotel. Looked like this one evening.

Is that a natural rock formation? It looks like one of those inukshuks. Amazing!

Looks like a pretty successful trip, assuming you wanted to be surrounded by beautiful scenery.
