End day 2 - Thursday, Jan. 28

The fun thing is, this is also the state at the end of Day 3. No change on Friday.

Used a bit of flash so you can see the effect better (maybe). Pretty scary right now, but just about where it should be. The tub is attached to the drain.

The lights are just hanging there. There isn't even a box behind the wallboard, just wires.
There will be some new GFI sockets put in (the old ones are just plain, dangerous ones).

No toilet, no shower, long trip downstairs in the middle of the night!
Lots of (daily) trips to the gym. Showers!!!

Bathroom reno -end day 1

OK, here we go. Day 1 (Wednesday, January 27, 2010) is the start of demolition. Take a look at the "before" (previous post for a comparative.

Everything has been ripped out: bathtub, 2 cabinets, sinks, faucets, toilet, tiles from floors and walls, wallpaper. We now have the powder room downstairs (no smoking), and the gym for showers.

There is still some more ripping out to do. The inside "door" is being taken up to the ceiling and widened. That will mean cutting out some of the framing. And the lights will get removed. All the new stuff is in the garage, and the new tiles are in the guest bedroom.

The bathtub area is the scariest because it has to be completely rebuilt with plumbing, wallboard and tiles. The drain has to be fitted as well. The tub in the picture is just sitting there, not fitted into place.
There is some wiring required later, but that has been roughly set up.

I think it gets even worse before it gets better.

Bathroom reno - before (Tuesday, Jan.26)

So, we are getting the upstairs bathroom redone. This is the start of the day-by-day account, but we are already into day 2. Therefore, a quick flurry of posts to get up to speed.

The room is an ell shape. This looks up the longer side toward the south wall.

And this is the remaining part of the south wall. The colours are all off because I didn't use a flash or correct the white balance. Try to mentally filter out the yellow-brown.
Last shot up the long side of the ell.

Looking back to where the first 3 shots were taken from. This is taken from in front of the sink / mirror visible in the shot above.
Across the short side, in front of the sink / mirror from 2 shots back. Bathtub & shower, tiles on wall, bathmat & tiles on floor.
