Dunollie Castle - once the seat of the clan MacDougall, Lords of Lorn, who were a significant force in Scottish history - at one point they owned a third of Scotland.

Dunstaffnage -The MacDougalls were previous residents in Dunstaffnage Cstle which was taken from their care and declared a royal castle by Robert the Bruce and the Campbells made keepers.

Have spent many hours trying to get these pictures aligned. Finally posted them but they need a lot of work. this site takes forever!!! Very frustrating!!!
Holy crap, Mom! So many nice pictures! Thanks for figuring out how to do that, 'cause it's great to see this whole trip. Looks like a really nice time amid incredible scenery.
I don't get what's with all the Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes stuff -- weren't they American? Didn't Sylvia off herself in New York? Must've been really cool to hear a childhood friend of Ted's. He was an intense poet.
Also: Why do they spraypaint those poor sheep? Who were all those other people you met? Nick Wilder is the tallest leprechaun I've ever seen. Are we related to those MacDougalls, i.e. Lords of Lorn? Where's that sheeps head? Is the pointy rock the eponymous old man? Is that a yak farm in Beuly? Does Sharon really have four daughters? And finally, where'd Dad get that cool jacket?
Sylvia Plath was American. She married Ted Hughes who was born in Mythelroyd, the area we were visiting. Apparently Ted Hughes was having ana affair while they were married. Some blame her suicide on this. She actually was living in Britain when she killed herself and was buried in that cemetery. People put pens all over the grave. It was kind of weird.
The Dougalls ( my grandmother's maiden name) are from the name MacDougall, hence the interest in the castles, etc.
The sheep were painted so they know which babies belong to which mothers, also whose farm they are from. They didn't seem to mind.
The people we met on the walking tour were all from Fredericton - really nice people. Susan and Jennifer were friends of Chooch.
I'm not sure where the sheep's head was but it definitely had blown inside out.
Yes, Sharon really has 4 girls. Don't know the yak farm you are referring to. I think Dad got the jacket at Sears.

The animals between "house in Beuly." and "Old church - Beuly." look like yaks or something. Probably just some kind of Scottish cow, though...
I love all the pics but I super-love the Old Man of Storr pics, and also Edinburgh looks really cool. Thanks for sharing them all. I really enjoyed them.
Erika told me they were Highland cows - long wooly hair and horns. Dad took the shot of the brown guys. They were very young and romping around and kicking up their back ends. Very cute.
