I got up early to go out around 6 am but could not get out of the hotel. That story will have to wait for another time. I assume I will get better at this with the writing and layout and all.

Out around 7 am to see Venice getting ready for the new day. Slight fog, eerie feeling. Water buses arriving at Arsenale, San Zaccarria and San Marco. People pouring out of little alleyways that obviously connect to other alleyways - if you know where you are. All the tourists get lost in Venice, and it is not a very big place!

San Marco square is almost empty. There will be more than 1000 people here later in the day. All these pictures are in or near St. Mark's square. The lone old lady sweeping the church doorway, the people dragging luggage as they arrive or leave (a very common sight, there are no cars and water taxis are REALLY expensive

), the gondolas near the San Marco water bus stop, and the Bridge of Sighs connecting the Doge's Palace to the prison. So called because this was the last glimpse of the outside world the convicted prisoners would see for some time (sigh).
